From Peru to Australia – Student Exchange

One of the many initiatives GAIL offers is the opportunity for students to complete an exchange with a focus on sport, culture, or academics. Klaus de Bary is a Year 10 student from Newton College in Peru who completed a term in Scotch College Adelaide earlier this year. Here is a short video highlighting his experience.

Peru 2024 Conference

The 2024 GAIL Conference in Peru was an incredible success! From July 14-20, 5 schools from 5 continents with 108 people in total attended the event! A massive thank you to Newton College who hosted this year’s event!

Nestled in the heart of the Amazon, at the Tambopata National Reserve, students engaged in a week of learning about Sustainability in action. Newton College partnered up with Nat Geo Educators from Whatz Your Wild, as well as a team of specialists and experts to deliver a truly meaningful experience for our students. Activities included: jungle walks, caiman and bird watching, sunrise and sunsets at the lake, and workshops through different lenses. Thanks to our experts and local guides, students learned about the fascinating world of insects, primates, microbiology, conservation, indigenous culture, art and journalism.

But that’s not all! Part of GAIL’s focus is also to ensure that our learning has a sense of purpose that extends beyond the conference. Therefore, at the end of the week, the students wrote a Sustainability pledge for our schools to agree on and implement. As our students have all agreed, “Nature has done so much for us, but what have really done for nature?”

2022 Goose Camp

Written by Charlotte T.

One of Scotches most highlighted traditions is our 4 day camp to Goose island. Our year 10 cohort travelled down to the South Australian coast to arrive by a tin boat. After what felt like hours we finally made it to the most beautiful island in the middle of the ocean. We spent the next few days snorkelling with sea lions, sailing and my personal favourite kayaking! I cant wait to hear 2023s year 10s journey and hope they enjoy it as much as we did! Here are some of my favourite pics:

Head of the River – Rowing

Written by Emma V.

The annual Head of The River is coming up this Saturday, an event that rowers from years 7-12 have been working towards for 6 months. The event is South Australia’s biggest school sporting event, and it is great this year to be back to normal after restrictions the last few years because of covid. This is a video about last year’s Head of The River and gives a pretty good idea of what the event is like!

Footloose – The Musical

At Scotch on the Torrens park campus some of our talented students have been working on our annual school musical for 2023! This year Footloose the musical has been selected for our senior and middle schoolers. We are seven weeks into our long but fun rehearsal prosses with our first performance being on the second of August. The cast of footloose have rehearsals every Friday after school and the occasional Sunday afternoon where our students are enriched by so many different tutors that come with many sets of expertise.
